Everything you need for your stay including a great location for exploring Savannah’s historic district. Parking space is rare for the area and an added bonus because you won’t ever need to get back in your car once you arrive. Furnishings are appropriate for the period of the home, but comfortable enough. Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and the area is quiet in the evenings, just close enough to walk to restaurants and bars, but far enough without the noise. Would rent again.
This was our 7th trip to Savannah and 4th in VRBO type properties. This home has 2 King Bedrooms, both are En-suite which is perfect when 2 couples travel together. The home is beautiful and historical but also updated everywhere it needed to be. The woodwork and doors are beautiful and having the 2 decks was very nice! The property manager was super responsive and fast to fix the 2 minor issues we had. Everything was well stocked, there were plenty of towels and everything we needed to make meals when we didn’t want to go out. Simply gorgeous home right across the street from Colonial Park Cemetary and very near everything else! Bonus - included parking spot and courtyard!!!
We really enjoyed staying in this beautiful, historic home. The location was great, within walking distance of historic Savannah. The amenities in the home were good, very comfortable.
Owner Response
We appreciate our guests taking the time to extend compliments so much! Thanks for staying.
My husband, sister and brother-in-law stayed with me at the Rue House for 4 days. We were very pleased with the place. It was absolutely beautiful. Very cozy and bright, yet historic. It was so much nicer than staying in a hotel. It was very clean and spacious. The two bedrooms have private bathrooms and there is a half bathroom off of the kitchen. Every room was gorgeous with chandeliers and fireplaces. The kitchen and bathrooms were updated and spacious and there is a washer/dryer combo for convenience. There are two nice porches to sit on. I already miss staying there and would highly it to anyone. The house is located on East Oglethorpe Avenue, which is a gorgeous street near historic Colonial Park Cemetery. One caveat, though. Stay alert for potential crime on the streets of Savannah, including Oglethorpe, especially in the early morning when fewer people are on the street. The back door of the house leads to a secluded street so better not to use that late at night or early in the morning. On our last morning, my husband and brother-in-law were outside at 5 a.m. in the front on Oglethorpe with our luggage waiting for an UBER ride to the airport when they noticed a lone, hooded man lurking in the bushes of the median strip separating the opposing lanes of traffic on Oglethorpe. He stared at them for what seemed like a minute and then crossed the street approaching them. My brother-in-law is an ex-prison guard who worked with criminals for many years. He was immediately alarmed by the man's antagonistic attitude and felt that the man was a potential mugger so he stared back at him intently to show that he was not afraid. The man walked up close to them, then grunted and walked on by. My brother-in-law is 6'3" and thinks that the man was weighing whether to mug them, but decided not to mess with him and my 6' husband. My sister and I were coming around the corner onto Oglethorpe after dropping off the garbage at the back of the house. We nearly ran into the man. Fortunately, we feel like we surprised him before he could decide to potentially make a move so he grunted at us and kept walking. We all are convinced that we were nearly mugged. Other than that, our visit was perfect.
We enjoyed the house and how easy it was to access everything in town. The house was clean and beds comfortable. A couple concerns: the back exterior stairs which were very slippery when wet. The interior staircase banister was rickety and needed attention. The front door knob was about to fall out, so we just used the back door to come and go. However, for a home in the historic district, we were very pleased.
The house was perfect for our family getaway. The bedroom on Oglethorpe is bit loud due to traffic but there’s nothing that can be done about that. Many restaurants within walking distance. Home was historic and nicely appointed. Beds were comfortable. I would def stay there again!
The Lovely Rue House!!!
Love Savannah! Directly in Historic District is a MUST!This house was PERFECT! Accommodated all our needs. So much history and able to imagine the time period! Brush up on Savannah history, it helps when exploring the city! Loved our stay!!Beautiful place!
Our stay at The Rue House was wonderful! We loved the restored historic touches and appreciated the updated amenities. It’s hard to beat the location being situated in the heart of the historic district on E. Ogelthorp Ave.
This is the third year we have enjoyed the Rue House. It is perfectly situated in the historic area of Savannah. Love the parking space in the rear & two king beds make this a unique property. Wonderful shopping & restaurants are within walking distance.
This is a beautiful, historic house that perfectly suited our needs for a long weekend with friends. The location is outstanding - walking distance to everything, in a quiet neighborhood, across from an historic cemetery. The furnishings are lovely and the kitchen is well equipped. There is even a half bath downstairs. Each bedroom has a comfortable bed and en suite bathroom. The back bath has a long double vanity with lots of room for your traveling toiletries. Each room has a large armoire for clothes. There are multiple porches for sitting and having your morning coffee. This next comment is not a ding at all - just a description that might help you decide if this house is for you. There are lots of stairs. You go up a full flight of stairs to enter the house and there are 19 steps up to the bedroom level. (This is a typical Savannah design.) We found the extra exercise a bonus but lugging your suitcase up if you're not in shape could be a deterrent. Check in is easy as Mary is very responsive. There's a lockbox so you have no worries about meeting your host on time. All in all, this was a great spot for us. We would come again.
Beautifully decorated, perfect location, and very comfortable beds! Sadly, we had to cut our trip short due to Hurricane Irma, but would love to come back! Mary was great and attentive to our questions and needs!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 310 Oglethorpe, located in the heart of the historic district. The house was perfectly described in the listing and we found everything we needed to make our time there so pleasant. Mary was always available and easy to deal with. We would love to return and would be pleased to recommend the property to anyone looking for a great experience in Savannah.
This home was perfect, great location, beautiful furnishings, very clean. This was living in a historic home and feeling what historic Savannah was like. I did like the modern updates of beautiful bathrooms and a full kitchen. I was traveling with family members from Paris and Brussels and all enjoyed our stay very much.
This is our second visit to this property in two years. We love the central location in historical Savannah within walking distance of wonderful restaurants. One of the few properties that has convenient parking on site.
We rented this home for a "girl's" week in Savannah. There were three of us and we had no problem with two of us bunking up since the beds are king size. Beds were comfortable, washer and dryer a big plus, plenty of dishes (could use measuring spoons and cups) and coffee maker that was quick. We stocked up on groceries and wine at a nearby (we had a car) Kroger for our breakfasts and happy hour snacks. LOVED our week in Savannah and this home was a big part of that.
My husband and I and another couple stayed here for 5 nights. The location is perfect. Everything was as advertised. Mary (owner) sent clear instructions. She went above and beyond by allowing us to park our car in her spot for an extra couple of hours on our checkout day which was St. Patrick's Day - the huge holiday. This allowed us to attend the parade, get out of town expeditiously. It meant she had to negotiate with her cleaning people a change of schedule on probably the busiest day for transportation in the historic district of Savannah - much appreciated.
Great house Just a couple of things that need some repair Shade in the front bedroom doesn't let down, had to clip curtain together to keep the light out. Light over the tub is out so it's a little dim when bathing at night with curtain closed Otherwise the location was great Right across from the police station and down the street from the fire dept. easy walk to river and the squares Would stay again
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Rue house. It was spacious, quaint and in an ideal location for walking and enjoying Savannah. I would highly recommend this property to any one looking to stay in the area.
We enjoyed our 10th anniversary here for 3 nights. We enjoyed the home and the large verity of things to do around the friendly southern city. We enjoyed ghost hunting across the street at the Colonial Park Cematary, located right across the street from the home. The owners of the home also run the 17hundred90 Inn and restaurant right around the corner from the house. The home had everything we needed and more. I highly recommend this house. P.S. This home is not haunted
We cannot say enough good things about this rental in Savannah - the accommodations are truly amazing, historic, comfortable and in such a wonderful location. We were extremely comfortable here with our friends, two huge master suites, a lovely kitchen, dining room and living room - we walked everywhere in historic Savannah. The manager, Mary, was most helpful not only in booking the place, but in helping with arrival, suggesting places to eat, etc. We would DEFINITELY stay here again in the future!!!! It's a jewel!
We enjoyed our stay immensely. If you are looking for a sample of the 19th/early 20th century style, with modern conveniences, the Rue House will give you that. The owner's depiction of the property is exactly what you will find. The living area/dining/kitchen downstairs is grand and the bedrooms (upstairs) are very comfortable. Both are large and lovely and the bathrooms are updated and fabulous. The home is very clean. The skylights are an added delight. The home can certainly accommodate two couples, and more, very comfortably. The neighborhood is quiet and the property is very close to Bull Street and River Street for walking pleasure and entertainment. That the property has designated parking is a huge plus !!!! We would recommend this home whether you wanted to "stay in" or be out and about in Savannah.
The property was exactly as described and within walking distance of great restaurants, shopping and historical sites. The off street parking was a great amenity in a place like Savannah. Mary, the property manager, made our first rental a pleasure able experience and quickly responded to all requests. We will definitely return.
We stayed at the Rue House for our son's graduation from SCAD. The house was absolutely beautiful. Each room looked exactly like it was in the pictures. The house was very clean. It was very quiet at night. In our bedroom, you couldn't even hear the rain, it was so quiet. It had all the amenities that were listed on the site so we knew how to prepare for our stay. It is in a perfect location. We walked everywhere. It is close to River street, Broughton St.& City Market where all the shops are. We walked to the Convention Center for the Graduation. There are many, many restaurants within walking distance. It is very difficult to park in downtown Savannah, so this house is in the absolute best location. You don't need your car at all if you are touring downtown. It is in a safe location. The owner was awesome. I had a couple of questions after we arrived and she was available immediately. Very impressed. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. While in Savannah, we highly recommend taking the haunted tours, taking in all the shops, touring the old houses, the river cruise, and trying out different restaurants. Just make sure you bring an umbrella! We HIGHLY recommend staying at The Rue House. It captures the essence of beautiful Savannah. You can just imagine living back in the 1800's while you stay in this house. We would definitely stay at this house again and recommend our friends/relatives do the same if they every get a chance to visit beautiful Savannah!
The property was nice and well maintained, if a bit stuffy. Best for four people, but we got on fine with six and use of the couch as a pull out. Location was perfect - we never touched our cars the entire weekend, walked everyone (and Ubered once due to rain). Would recommend.
I rented the this property during Holy Week and it exceeded all of my expectations. First, it is located right in the middle of the historic district, across from the old cemetery, and literally a seven minute walk to River Street and the other historic squares. The house is gorgeous and has remained true to its 1700s roots. The bathrooms and kitchen have been tastefully redone but the rest of the house retains its historic character. Two caveats: the stairs are steep so if you have trouble with that, know that the bedrooms are on the top floor. Also, the three TVs (family room and bedrooms) were a bit hard to negotiate but that could be because of Savannah's local cable system. I could not get two to work properly. The kitchen is well stocked and there are plenty of towels and a washer and drying. If you want a taste of true old Savannah, this is it.
The Rue House provided a great home base for us to discover historic Savannah. The accommodations were clean and charming with the elegance of southern furnishings, crystal chandeliers in every room, well appointed modern kitchen facilities and close proximity to the historic district of old Savannah. Two large bedrooms, each with a bathroom allowed for ample privacy. Steep stairs from the main floor to the upstairs bedrooms would be challenging for those with bad knees or hips. The railing going upstairs is a bit unstable. I reported this to the manager and she will notify the owners. One parking spot comes with the property, but you can get a 24 or 48 hr parking pass with little difficulty. The manager was very responsive to any questions I had both prior to our arrival and during our stay. The price point for 2 couples was very reasonable for the accommodations we experienced. I would highly recommend this property to friends and would stay again.
A great location, about 6 minutes walk from Bay Street. Beautiful home to come back to every evening. Reservation was smooth and hassle free. She worked with our changing schedule too!
This was our second visit to Savannah. We loved the central location on Oglethorpe bc really it was in the center of historical district. We walked all directions with no problems. We were a little blown away of the architecture but after a few hours loved all our room and the restored inn. I love old staircases and this one was beautiful. Beds were awesome! Lots of towels w/o having to wash each day❤️ Front door is beautiful! Definitely, needs the lights on outside....coming down back steps is hard w/o light. Mary was very helpful answering all my questions. Had a ball at the Rue House.
Very beautiful! The furnishings were antiquish, beautiful and functional. Everything worked good, all the appliances and the washing machine. The woodwork is beautiful, the door and window frames, and the wood floor. There was no mention of fires being allowed in the fireplaces, but surely not. If not, some notice should be made to not build a fire in the fire places. Also, the house did not have smoke alarms, which is a good idea. We enjoyed our stay very much!
My family (husband, me, 2 teenagers, and 5 year old twins) stayed at this townhouse Nov 27 to Nov 29. It is absolutely beautiful and very comfortable. It is just loaded with Victorian details - wood floors, huge pockets doors, transom windows, moulding, and chandeliers everywhere. There was plenty of room for all 6 of us. The location is centrally located in the middle of the historic district. Wifi service worked fine. I would love to stay there again!!
A very nicely restored home. Bedroom was comfortable and bath with jetted tub was terrific. Easy walk to River Street and an all around convenient location. The chandeliers in the house are spectacular. Neat courtyard and back porches. Will definitely stay again. WOW
A very special house
This is a very special house. Lots of personality, felt like we were back in the early 1800s. The interior was actually far more beautiful than the photos, which are fantastic. The kitchen had all the amenities and then some. The house was super clean, and well appointed. Perfect central location, can walk to Forsyth Park, City Market, and of course, River Street. This genteel house, requires a gentle touch. I would not recommend it for toddlers/preschoolers or unruly children. I hope to return!
