Description
Garden Apartment on Jones Street! King Bed, Shared Courtyard, Easy Free Parking On- Street.
Full Bath and Kitchen.
This apartment is on the street level of a Savannah Grey Brick townhouse in the Historic District. There is a King bed in the bedroom, a TV in both bedroom and living room, a comfortable dining area, a fully equipped kitchen and even a shared (with the main house) courtyard out the back door. Amazing value for a large apartment in a prime location!
King bed in bedroom, Rollaway Cot and a 4th person may sleep on the sofa. Bathroom located next to bedroom, accessible from hallway without walking through bedroom (great setup if someone is sleeping in the living room). Nice new Washer and Dryer in unit.
Please note, at some point last century the wall on the West side of the house which originally had arched openings into a side garden was fully bricked in to make a solid wall. Therefore 2 of the main windows in the apartment look out into a bricked-in corridor instead of onto the street. This makes for a very sound sleeping environment in the bedroom! But it also cuts back on natural light in the unit. This is part of the reason the rate on this rental is 'budget friendly'. We do not want guests to be unpleasantly surprised when they look out the West facing windows, so we are disclosing this information to consider before booking.

Love it!!!
My daughters and I have stayed in this apartment for two years in a row. We love the historic charm to it. It’s very clean. We love that we can park the car at the apartment and walk to all the places we love. Savannah is so beautiful, you will want to walk instead of drive. We will always check for availability here first on our trips to Savannah. The owners have always been great at communication, and so very kind.
Cozy getaway
Cozy, perfect space for a couple and location is walking distance to everything downtown Savannah has to offer.
The location was perfect and parking was close. The nearby neighborhood was beautiful and easy to walk to many squares and restaurants. It was definitely an older apartment with creaky wood floors and older kitchen but was simple and clean. Great for 2 people if you are there to enjoy the city! It was cheaper for a reason and suited us just fine! Thank you! :-)
We had a great weekend stay and enjoyed being walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go. The property was as described and quite comfortable. Parking on the street was easy. We had an issue with several flies present upon check in, but they didn't return after we swatted them. Perhaps they got in during the prior cleaning. We would stay here again.
This apartment is exactly as it says. Simple but perfect location to walk to museums and restaurants. Less than half a mile from the action. It was stocked with clean linens, toilet paper, soaps, even had laundry detergent... which usually is not provided. We would definitely stay here again!
I really enjoyed my stay in this little gem. The location was great and an easy walk to all of Savannah's attractions. I was in town for a half marathon race so part of my weekend was dedicated to that but I got to do all of the sightseeing I wanted to do too. I was able to park my car on the street when I arrived and leave it there the whole weekend because this was in a perfect spot for walking to restaurants and everyplace I wanted to visit. The apartment was comfortable both is size and amenities and Mary was always available by phone or text if I needed anything. I highly recommend this place!
Very economical choice. Good value. Location is little on the outskirts but close enough if you don’t mind walking. Just be aware any upstairs activity sounds like herding animals if you are staying in the bottom level apartment.
My wife and I had a great first time experience in Savannah's Historic District and our first time in a VRBO. This ground floor apartment was perfect for us. Parking nearby on the street was always available. Had great meals at nearby Clary's and also Mate Factor. We also were able to make use of the free DOT bus service to get around. The bedroom with the king size bed was quiet to street traffic. The washer and dryer was appreciated.
Overall this property is 90 percent fantastic, 10 percent dated and tired. The bathroom needs to be updated, and light fixtures need to be reattached to the ceiling. Other reviewers commented on an odor that was unpleasant, I did notice it, but I am sure this is probably normal for a hundred plus year old building in the Deep South during the rainy season. I far as staying here again, yes I would stay here again. This little apartment is a great place to stay in Savannah, just needs a little tlc and it would be Fantastic!
This was my third time staying in this cute condo in Savannah. Three of us went this time and there was plenty of space for all. The condo is totally handicap accessible, which is a huge plus for us. We absolutely loved staying here again! We visited Savannah, Tybee, Jekyll, and St. Simons on our stay and it was absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for such a sweet spot to stay on our travels. We will be back again soon, I'm sure.
This apartment was close and in walking distance of downtown and most of the squares in the city. Our only issue was the internet kept going in and out (very slow) and the fact that the entrance was right off the sidewalk (street) we didn't feel security was at it's best. The AC unit was great. Parking right in front on the street worked out good. The property manager Mary, was responsive and helpful. We do recommend this place.
We would have given 3.5 stars if we were able. We knew we weren't booking a luxurious place to stay. We had never been to Savannah and liked the idea of having our own little apartment with a kitchen and some living space. The accommodations were fine. Nothing horrible, nothing amazing. This location was used by my husband and myself. We were gone most of the day every day so all we needed was a good bed and a place to eat breakfast most mornings. We did do a load of laundry after going to the beach one day, it was nice to have access to a washer and dryer. A fresh coat of paint is needed in the bathroom. We asked for new pillows and were taken care of right away, which was appreciated. Knowing what we know now we may have booked something a little closer to where we spent time but we would have paid more which for us saving money was a priority. We rented a car 1 day and walked all the other days. We did hire an uber to get to and from the apartment and airport. I did get tired from all of the walking and didn't wear good walking shoes for the uneven streets, sidewalks and amount of walking. That was my fault. I didn't want to wear my running shoes, I wanted to wear cuter shoes. We walked a different way each day and liked seeing the old buildings, architecture, and parks in the squares everywhere. We did walk to a Kroger grocery store a few blocks away which was nice for the few things we wanted for simple breakfasts. We ate out for the other meals each day, the southern food was not what we were used to eating so having a simple healthy meal in the morning was perfect.
The apartment was very nice and suited our needs perfectly. Clary’s for Breakfast is a must just two blocks away. Great place for two to four people. The furnishings were comfortable and is in a perfect location to have a nice shady walk, or walk to many of the popular spots. Loved our stay! Would recommend this place.
The accommodation was lovely, had everything we needed, the location was perfect for getting about , we could walk every where really easily. Savannah is beautiful, as our locatiion was on one of the site seeing tours as prettiest street in savannah we were really pleased Mary always responded to any questions really quickly, making our whole experience great , would highly recommend . Thank you Mary for making the last few days of our vacation perfect
All you need. If you're visiting Savannah you won't be in your rental home much anyway! Clean, even down to the details. Responsive, friendly owner. I was skeptical about the bed (I have a Temperpedic at home) but it was comfy and I slept well. Five min walk to Clary's, the ultimate breakfast spot (tip: send someone ahead to get your name on the list...there is ALWAYS a wait but it is worth it). Only thing keeping me from a 5 star review is I wish the owner would make some basic updates that would work wonders for the cute little space....fresh paint, coordinating furniture, updates to the bathroom, and updated decor. Overall, very pleased though.
Charming, clean, on a street of beautiful historic homes...this rental was within walking distance to the entire historic district. Free parking right next to apartment. The best part, however, was the manager and assistant manager and their excellent customer service. We arrived early, before check in, and had to use the restroom so bad. I called the manager to see if we could get in..she gave me her assistants number, who called the housekeeper, who was there to let us in within 10 min. Then we left a favorite shirt hanging in the closet when we left. Called from home 2 days later.Once again, the manager called her assistant who got the shirt from the housekeeper, and mailed it to us for a small fee within a few days. They went above and beyond to make these customers happy!
This is my second time staying here. And it's still charming and quaint. I love the proximity to all the attractions and restaurants. I always feel at home.
Owner Response
We are so lucky to have repeat guests.
Lovely Stay-Couldn't have been nicer
We had never been to Savannah before, so when we drove down Jones street, we were very excited to see the historic homes. When we found our little apartment on Jones street, we were ecstatic. It was absolutely lovely! Such a sweet place that is clean and centrally located to everything that we were going to do. Walks to the park were lovely, and very short driving trips downtown. Mary was so helpful and quick to respond to our questions. We absolutely loved it, and fell in love with Savannah. We cannot wait to visit again and look forward to booking with Mary again!
My sister and I came to Savannah for a weekend getaway and this place was perfect! We drove my car and were able to get a parking spot right in front of the house and left it there the whole weekend without worry. The apartment was perfect in size and location being only a couple of blocks from river street. Will definitely be staying here again when going back!
Owner Response
Thank you so much!
My husband and I enjoy older places with character. We both slept really well even though there was a busy street right outside. I realize it costs a lot to upgrade a kitchen but it would be worth it in this unit because you could get more money per night. Dishwashers have really spoiled us. We also enjoyed walks through the neighborhood checking out the architecture. I would have given a five star rating if the kitchen was more modern.
Owner Response
This reviewer and anyone who is willing to pay a higher rate for a nicer kitchen has a wide array of choices including many others on this same block. I manage 65 total homes and approximately 60 of them are fully renovated and updated but a few are budget properties like this and are described as such. If the owner chooses to do an expensive kitchen remodel in the future then this apartment would join the rest of the more expensive units, sure, but for now this is such a nice opportunity for budget conscious guests to save. The owner just replaced the entire HVAC system here on July 5, 2017, and after that expense no other updates are planned. Future guests, please choose this property with the full awareness that you did so to save money, bypassing more expensive options, and try to keep that in mind as you stay and write your review. We know it is not a 5 star hotel but we strive to get 5 stars from guests when ranking it relative to the price and location. We urge those who want to do some cooking in a fancy kitchen while on vacation and prefer using a dishwasher to look for a unit that has those things. Just ask!
I came to Savannah with my daughter and her husband and son to enjoy the town and Tybee Island. We were all so happy with our accommodations! Plenty of room and such historic charm! We were able to cook dinner and enjoy lounging in the LR and also the bedrooms were such a good size! Thank you for everything Mary! We will be back next year!! Diane
This little apartment unit had everything we needed to have a wonderful stay in Savannah on one on the prettiest streets in the country! It is also close to lots of attractions so that you can walk or if you do decide to drive, there is always somewhere nearby to park when you get back. The only negative thing I can say is it is a dark unit but it is a basement apartment so I was expecting that and for the price, you can't beat it! Thanks Mary for a wonderful stay.
This was a perfect apartment for a weekend getaway. There is a lot within walking distance, or just a short cab ride away. The apartment was clean and comfortable. My only recommendation is that if you are hot natured, bring a fan because the AC in the apartment does not get very cold.
We had a great time in Savannah and this was a great place to stay. The unit was clean and more spacious than the photos show. It is close or within walking distance to almost everything we planned to do. I had a few questions for Mary and she responded very quickly. Would recommend this unit to anyone.
This was a wonderful apartment for the two of us. It really could comfortably fit 4 adults! We walked to nearly everywhere on the trip. The river streets are just at a mile from the apartment, so everything was super close. Bring good walking shoes, and know that the streets and sidewalks aren't entirely even. But enough about Savannah! The apartment was fantastic. The bed was comfy, the water pressure and heat was awesome in the shower, and the kitchen had enough kitchenware for general usage. If you wanted to cook a gourmet meal in the kitchen, you wouldn't have everything, but you had enough for a regular meal or snack prep. We enjoyed some time out on the back patio, and that was lovely. The only downside was that the lights weren't working for the outdoor patio, but there was strip lighting and the street lights helped as well. All in all, lovely place, and should we ever visit Savannah again, this would be a repeat place!
We loved this place! It was in a good neighborhood and was super clean! The bed was awesome, I even asked where I could buy one for my own house. We had shopped around looking for something inexpensive and could not have been happier. We will definitely be returning and will be recommending it to friends visiting Savannah.
We were in Savannah during hurricane Matthew which downed lots of trees and caused power outages and business closures. Because of this we were home bound in the apartment for almost 48 hours. The property manager, Mary, was so gracious in checking on us and providing us with things to help us weather the storm. As for the apartment, it is exactly as shown in the photos. Pros: location, convenient parking, comfortable bed, washer/dryer/detergent and great support from PM Mary. Cons: It is the little things that make this vacation rental only average. We've come to have certain expectations of nice touches in our vacation rentals and this property did not meet that expectation. There is virtually no decor or personality in this unit. The supplies are limited - no measuring cups, no small saucepans, no cookie sheet, no full set of measuring spoons, no pot holders, toiletries consist of one small bar of bath soap and a pump hand soap, threadbare hand towels, worn pillow shams. One of the bar stools was missing. In-op lights at back door. Those are little things but they add up. My biggest complaint about this apartment is the smell. Musty, mildew smell is almost overpowering at times. It didn't bother my husband but I found it very unpleasant. So if you can live without the little niceties, you will be happy with this place due to the great location. Would I stay here again? Probably not.
Owner Response
This couple made a decision to ride out a hurricane here instead of evacuating. We had an unprecedented amount of rain that caused all of the historic homes to smell musty. I have a very sensitive nose so I was aware of this at each of the 40+ houses I manage downtown. This is the smell of 150 year old wood combined with humidity. The ground level units like this one to smell a bit after a normal rain, but the hurricane rain was a huge amount of water and even the upper level main house units smelled damp for days. The good news is that this brick fortress stood strong and everyone was more than fine, never even losing power in the midst of the hurricane. We will replace the missing small sauce pan. As my ad has always noted, this unit allows people to get a low rate if they do not wish to pay extra for the multiple upgrades offered in more expensive rentals peppering downtown Savannah. This place has a nice new refrigerator, a good coffee maker and a newly upgraded flat surface stove/range. We even provide dish soap, toilet paper, and bath soap in the budget rate. Similar size properties in equally great locations with extra amenities such as high end artwork, shampoo and conditioner and extensive cooking/baking equipment are available, just ask for a suggestion if you feel that is more suited to your needs.
My wife and I spent a couple of nights here recently on our visit to the Lowcountry of GA and SC. The apartment is on the "garden level" of an amazing brick house from the 1850s. There is so much history on this street and the surrounding neighborhood. It is a real delight to stay in such an area full of history and incredible architecture. While not in a commercial district, the apartment was still close to several restaurants (Clary's and Firefly Cafe are both only 3 blocks away - both delicious) which we walked to. It was about an 15 minute stroll down to the commercial area of Broughton Street with even more restaurants, shops, and museums. The apartment is modestly furnished, well appointed and clean. For being "budget-friendly", we felt there was great value in this comfortable getaway. Working with the manager Mary was so easy, and our time here so delightful, we are already planning a return trip!
Sometimes it's important to escape the hustle and bustle of big city life in Atlanta, and Savannah is my favorite destination to unwind. This apartment made for the perfect midweek getaway. Quiet, comfortable and very convenient to everything in the historic district. Super affordable and within walking distance to so much, how can you go wrong? I think this will become my go-to getaway spot for any return trips. My thanks to the kind owner for his hospitality!
Beautiful apartment, it really made us feel like we were living in the historic district for a couple days! It felt like home! With in walking distance to everything! We loved the outside sitting area in the backyard - perfect for a glass of wine after a day of walking around!
Loved this cute corner lot apartment on the bottom level. Easy parking on street. Sheets on master bed were amazing. The amount of space was perfect for two adults and two kids. Central to town. Within walking distance of Clary's Cafe and other sites. Management company was super easy to get a hold when we needed them. They were in and out of the unit while we were out and fixed a small issue with the tub. Was very impressed how fast they responded! Will definitely stay here again when we vacation in Savannah!
This was a great apartment convenient to everything. We walked to downtown and the squares while we were there. If you're planning to just visit downtown and the historic district, there's no need for a car. We enjoyed our stay here, it had everything we needed. Our only complaint was that the shower was too low for anyone over 5'11". Definitely worth coming back to!
Perfect spot for a solo vacation while my daughter was visiting SCAD. I spent 6 days at the property and was very pleased. Very quiet apartment (though you can sometimes hear your upstairs neighbor) and neighborhood. I walked to 97% of the places I wanted to go. The apartment was the perfect size for me. Minimal decorations, but tasteful. Clean - which is a huge plus. Nice sized bathroom. Big, comfy bed.. On the firm side. Easy check-in and out. No problems at all while I was there! There are dozens of restaurants within walking distance, a nice Kroger grocery store and dollar store south if the house, and the river is north. The historic district was smaller than it looked on the maps I had seen.... I would start walking and be surprised where I ended up! If you like to cook, there is a nifty place called The Salt Table that has different salts, sugars, honey, and wine. If you are interested in photography, check out Capturing Savannah with Britt and Pablo; they provide instruction on using a variety of cameras, history lessons, and show you some great places to take photos. The cemeteries are beautiful - went to Bonaventure and Laurel Grove (neither are in walking distance) and Colonial (easy walk - amazing crepe myrtles!!). I would definitely consider staying here again!!
Mary's realistic description of the property meant that there were no surprises. It's quiet and comfortable; great value. The small terrace in the back provides a nice, shady spot to relax after a day of site seeing. And speaking of site seeing, this location is perfect for exploring the historic district; easy walking distance to most attractions and located in a beautiful neighbourhood. The WiFi wasn't the most reliable, but I very much enjoyed my stay and would stay here again.
The property is located between Forsyth Park and river which makes for easy walking to either. My family enjoyed the location as it let us travel everywhere we were hoping to go. The back yard/garden is a nice place to sit in the evenings and enjoy the weather. Mary was quick to respond to any inquiries we had. She has even created a nice book that details places to eat and things to see and do which was helpful. The book contains blurbs about each place which was very helpful with a child in tow.
We stayed here four nights and had a wonderful stay! Mary Anderson was very prompt and professional, and helped answer all of our questions ahead of our trip. She even allowed us to drop off our luggage early which was a huge help! Overall the booking process was seamless, and I highly recommend this rental property!!! I read through the previous reviews and wanted to provide specific feedback regarding this property. Pros: Location - Jones Street is absolutely stunning! Its close to Forsyth Park, Riverwalk, Downtown. We walked everywhere. Free Wifi/Cable - There's a flat screen tv located in the living room & bedroom. Wifi code is listed in the welcome binder. Wifi in the bedroom was spotty on our iPhones but only once or twice. Keep in mind you're in the basement of a older home! It didn't bother us at all as it worked fine for the most part. We mainly used the space to refuel and recharge. Washer & Dryer/Iron Included - We didn't use the washer or dryer, but appreciated the fact that it was onsite! There was also an iron and small ironing board available. We used it daily, and ironed on top of the washer. Bathroom amenities- Towels (shower towels, hand towels, and wash cloths were stocked and available). Hand soap, small hotel size shampoo and conditioner, and blow dryer were provided. We brought some of these items ourselves but wanted folks to know they're readily available. Also the hot water in the shower lasts for days!!! Very nice perk. Kitchen - Cups, Mugs, Plates, Silverware, etc are provided. We didn't have any coffee for the coffee maker onsite, so I'm not sure if that's included. We never asked bc we ate breakfast out and about each morning :) Clary's is a must! Henry's is a walk but a good, affordable diner nonetheless. Also Blends Coffee Boutique was lovely. Bedroom - the mattress was extremely comfortable! We got lots of rest and the room has no natural light which makes it easier to rest! These are my only suggestions (and certainly not deal breakers!) just purely helpful feedback from our recent stay that may help future guests during their stay! -Update top, white pillows in bedroom. They were flat and the extras located in the closet were the same. -Update the toilet paper. It was thin and rough. -Include a full length mirror. Maybe next to bed or stowed away in the closet. -Fix running toilet. We simply closed door and still slept soundly! Overall though great rental. We would book again!!!
Owner Response
Thank you for this super detailed review. I have not changed the advertisement wording for the past 3 years since it seems to "work" as it is and I let the reviews kind of speak for themselves. This one might have more info than the ad and honestly should be very helpful for future potential guests. I think we did fix the chronic running toilet because nobody has mentioned it lately but it took a few tries as it was a special size flapper and the one size fits all kits were just not working. Regarding toilet paper, we use Scott tissue. This is not cheaper than soft toilet paper so this is not an example of the budget friendly nature of this rental, it is simply the type we buy for all the rentals because it is less likely to clog the historic home systems and it comes individually wrapped. Most hotels use similar TP. I use the same in my own home. If you really love soft toilet paper you might want to bring it with you.
My husband and I made our 1st trip to Savannah 4/29-5/2 2016......perfect for 2 people! What a wonderful time we had! The apt is so close to everything.....Clary's for breakfast is a must....We walked most of the time to the things in the close perimeter. The bed in the apt is the best.....The apt is in a good location....never a worry about safety...
Loved this place! Easy walk to the river front, great size for the two of us, though still would have been fine with more with the pull out sofa. Everything clean and organised when we arrived, easy to organise getting into the property etc. great communication. Had a fab time!
This was a great place. Our family of four slept very comfortably in this apartment. We went to Firefly to eat a delicious supper. We walked over to Forysth Park, beautiful place. We enjoyed being right in the middle of everything. Safe streets and easy walking to eat and play.
The neighborhood is lovely and so is this apartment. Everything was as described except the small garden in the back. It was more lovely than I anticipated! Drinking my coffee at sunrise among the greenery was a highlight. Thanks for everything!
very nice and well equipped apartment for two people. It has everything you need . Excellent location allowing easy walking access to many attractions in the historic Savannah.
My husband and I along with our toddler traveled to Savannah to visit with family and instead of a stuffy hotel room we opted for this 1 bedroom apartment. It was perfect! We were able to keep our son on his normal nap and bedtime schedule and still visit with family. We don't eat out much right now with a toddler so we just ordered take out. We were still able to enjoy the great local restaurants without forcing our toddler to sit for hours on end. I highly recommend the apartment and we will definitely look for it if we visit again next year!
This apartment was the ideal stay in Savannah. We were looking for something less "touristy"; we wanted to get a real feel for Savannah. This apartment is located in the "bottom" part of the historic district and within walking distance to everything. Forsyth park is only blocks away and the squares all around can't be beat. We did walk to Foxy Loxy on Saturday (half price wine and smores) but took a cab back. Because the apartment is on the bottom part of the historic district, once you go out of it, it feels a little less safe. The apartment itself was clean and cozy. You can sleep forever because the bedroom stays so dark, even into the afternoon! We did not have any issues with parking. There are parking restrictions on the weekends for the street cleaners, but there are signs. Mary got back to me right away each time I contacted her, and we had no problems getting in. When I come back to Savannah, I will be staying here again! I cannot wait!!!
This is my second time staying in this property and I loved it yet again. It is a cute little space just blocks from several great, well-known Savannah restaurants. River Street is a little too far to walk, but parking in the city isn't bad at all. My husband and I had a great time and really enjoyed having the ability to use the kitchen while we stayed here. It saved us a little money not having to go out for every meal. The location is great if you want to explore both Tybee Island and Savannah. We also drove about 2 hours to St. Simons and Jekyll Island as well. I highly recommend this property for couples or small groups of friends to be able to enjoy the city of Savannah on a budget. Would definitely come back again and again.
This was the perfect Savannah apt - It was hard to leave... in just the couple days my boyfriend and I stayed there it felt like home! The apartment was clean and inviting upon arrival - check in was super easy and the property manager texted me back immediately with any questions I had! The courtyard out back was great - We sat outside both nights for hours... it was so peaceful! We would absolutely stay here again and would recommend it to everyone.
If you just need a place to stow your gear, get cleaned up and get a great nights sleep on the super comfortable bed for checking out lovely Savannah, you can't do much better than this property. It's no frills and the listing is straightforward. If you're planning on coming to Savannah and sitting around in your rental, then this place probably isn't for you. My wife and I were fortunate enough to be able to book it for one night on our way down to Florida for a wedding. It's easy to find and a great location for heading out to enjoy the town. We walked from the apartment to Forsyth Park and then back north to East Bay Street for dinner and drinks at Rocks on the Roof at Bohemian Hotel. We did a little more walking around afterward before heading back to the apartment and were back before we knew it. We loved the location (and the price!) and would definitely come back for another stay.
My boyfriend and I loved the apartment. It was very close to everything and we walked everywhere. The bed was amazing, we are pondering buying one just like it lol. There was plenty of space for us thru out the apartment and we didn't feel cramped at all. The small patio courtyard was a nice touch. Secluded and not a lot of street noise. However if your sitting in the living room, you can hear a good bit of street noise. It didn't bother us to deter out stay. But to some it might be a problem. Some of the reviews mentioned a musky smell. But the house is a century old. There is going to be some sort of smell. To us it added to the charm! The place was spotless and well kept. Parking wasn't very much of a hassle. But do pay attention to the signs and read the binder! I suggest moving your vehicle early on the assigned sweeping nights. If you wait too late (like we did) you will have to park on other streets. No big hindrances what so ever. Savannah is an easy city to navigate and everyone is so friendly and courteous. Staying in such an awesome house made it even better. Can't wait to plan another visit!
The location was wonderful and very close to everything. The owner / manager was very responsive to any questions I had and I am sure if there had been a problem it would have been fixed. yes, the place is a touch musty but I actually liked that myself and after a few moments you do not notice it. The bedroom is very dark since the window has been blocked and the bed was quite comfortable. It is great for sleeping especially if you want to sleep in later than normal. I only had two minor issues: Parking is free but pay attention to the signs (I didn't notice them) and / or read the notebook. It was under a table apparently and I didn't see it either but wasn't really looking for one. I have a $25 ticket for parking on the street at night (Saturday) as they were "cleaning" the streets. This wasn't their fault but I do wish I had known about it. The inner plastic shower curtain did have mildew and soap scum all over it. It desperately needs replacing or cleaning. It had obviously been up for quite some time and hadn't been attended to. I didn't notice until my shower the next AM and by then it was nearly time to check out. (only stayed one night). For me it wasn't that big of a deal but it may turn off a few people. The rest of the place was very clean though and I do appreciate that. Overall, this a great place and perfect for a weekend get away. It is a quiet street at night so relaxing is easy but it is close enough to enjoy the night life if you so choose.
My boyfriend and I rented this apartment for the weekend. It was great! Very clean, bigger than expected, walking distance to everything, and the property manager was nice and answered all of my questions quickly. The only downside was parking. Which was more of an issue because of the city, not the apartment itself. We found a great parking spot right out front and didn't move our car all weekend.....which was part of the problem. We were aware of sweeping zones because they were mentioned in the packet we were given, so I made sure to keep an eye out for any signs. We didn't see any the whole time. When we got in the car to leave Sunday I had a $25 citation for parking in a sweeping zone. The binder in the home said this was easy to appeal by calling. I called and they said I had to appeal online, which I did. They denied my appeal, stating that there is adequate signage but neither of us saw ANY! Just keep an extra good look out for signs. They aren't permanent so technically they could be placed anywhere and at anytime.
Owner Response
I have since created a full color info page showing pictures of the actual street signs (one of which is directly in front of the house) and explaining them in detail. The page is in the info binder in the living room along with the wifi code. No sweeping happens during the week but weekends one side of Jones Street gets swept starting at midnight on Saturday night. The other side gets swept starting at midnight on Friday night. So on weekends you need to swap sides. The other 5 nights you can park on either side and never move. The cross street Price does not get swept at all so parking there would work if reading signs & changing sides on weekends is too hard during your vacation. The city sanitation department is getting stricter about not waiving the tickets for being in a sweep zone.
My girlfriend and I absolutely loved the location and apartment. Perfect to get around all the historical houses/mansions and not far from the River. We biked during the day and pedi cabbed at night. Down the street from Mrs. Wilkes Restaurant. Loved Savannah and the apartment was more than enough space for a couple.
My husband and I had a great 20th anniversary weekend. I have stayed in several of Mary's locations and this one did not disappoint. The location is perfect to park and walk everywhere, which we did all weekend. The apartment had exactly what we needed for the 2 of us and the bed was extremely comfortable. Yes, there wasn't a lot of natural light, as mentioned in the description, but it never bothered us and they had a nightlight if you want to use it! :)
Very nice little home. Good location to catch the tour buses or to just walk where you want to go. When I contacted the manager for replacement of a light bulb she responded immediately and it was replaced.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this historic garden apartment.I can see why everyone says Jones Street is the prettiest street in town. This apartment is perfectly located in the historic district, and I don't think we moved our car once for 3 days. Can't wait to come back to Savannah and we would definitely stay here again.
My friends and I stayed here on our visit to Savannah, and found the apartment in a great location from everything - either a nice walk or quick drive away from whatever we needed. Check-in and check-out was a breeze...and the property manager was FANTASTIC at answering any and all questions we had. The apartment was great, too - comfortable with everything we needed for our 5-day stay. Jones Street is beautiful and this apartment is close to some fantastic homes and sites! Price Street (the unit is on the corner of Jones and Price) can be a little loud, but cannot be heard from the bedroom. I would absolutely return and rent this unit again should I return to Savannah.
The location on Jones street is wonderful and Mary is a very accommodating and responsive manager. I agree with the previous renter's notes about the darkness and muskiness but opening the front and back doors gets the air flow going quickly (bugs were not an issue in March). My only real complaint (but it's a big one) is the loud and abrasive noises from the people above us. It sounded like the dining room was right above our bedroom and starting from 8:30 AM on both mornings, we could hear chairs and other furniture being dragged across the room and shoes stumping around. It made it extremely unpleasant to stay in the bedroom. We came home after dinner on sunday night and even the television could not cover up the upstairs racket. The sounds did not quiet down until around 10 PM.
Owner Response
Nobody likes a lot of noise from above. If this were a consistent problem you would see more reviews about it, in fact probably all the reviews would mention it. We have had over 3 years of vacation rental history and seldom hear this sort of feedback. We even have the identical setup next door and the garden level apartment there has some of the best reviews in Savannah. During this person's stay there was a nice family with several young children who stayed upstairs for 2 nights. They were obviously more active than the average guests but I am happy to see they still respected the "Quiet Hours starting at 10pm" I have posted upstairs for this exact reason. The normal experience if you stay in this apartment would be that you could tell people are upstairs sometimes, hearing some bumps and footsteps but it is all muffled and not enough to keep you awake or unduly bother you. People sleep very very well in this apartment. My own parents stayed here and said it was one of their favorite units that I manage. In my personal travel experience the noise from hotel hallways carries much more than between units in these solidly built historic homes. Toward the end of Jun 2015 we put a rug in the dining room which should help a lot to reduce chair scooting noises.
After purchasing tickets for the Savannah Food & Wine Festival I found this cute and affordable apartment on VRBO. The location is perfect for walking to the park, restaurants and bars. The place was clean and quaint.
My husband and I had no trouble whatsoever walking to many area attractions: Mrs. Wilkes dining room, Clary's, Forsyth Park, Cathtedral of St John the Baptist, and Flannery O'Connor's home to name a few. There are so many beautiful squares in Savannah that it's hard to go wrong with location in the historic district. This unit was accurately portrayed in its description and by its photos. The owner was completely upfront with me that there was very little natural light in the unit. The thing I wasn't prepared for was the dankness of the unit. It had the feel of a basement. Little natural light means few windows and the windows that are there are painted shut. There is a small outdoor patio area in the back where I drank my tea and read each morning. I would have loved to prop open the door to get some fresh air in the unit but there were no screens so I couldn't do that. Therefore there was absolutely no fresh air in the unit or air flow. (I personally love a breeze.) After the first night I decided to use the fan (which was stored in the bedroom closet) when I slept but the fan was broken. I contacted the owner and she replied immediately. She even went to the store on a Sunday and delivered me a brand new fan. That was much appreciated! It helped me to sleep better. We also bought an air fresheshner to try and get rid of that musty smell. If you cook in the unit it helps a lot. As my title indicates, this is a budget friendly apartment for a reason. The location is good, the amenities are good (although a wine opener would be helpful), the owner is lovely and responsive, and the unit is clean but it feels dank. I wore shoes around the unit and wouldn't lie on the ground to stretch or do yoga. So if none of that matters to you, it's a fine place to stay. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more reasonably priced unit.
Owner Response
I'm actually not the owner, I am the manager and good friend of the owner who lives part time upstairs. I do everything I can to make this a place where I personally would stay. My own parents have stayed here (and loved it) and I go inside this unit more than once a week so I know it well. A wine opener is provided in all of my VRBO properties but sometimes they disappear. I imagine guests take the corkscrew out on a picnic and then forget to return it to the rental. The "dankness" level varies here according to the weather. It's occasionally got a basement atmosphere, despite the fact this is not underground at all. There are hundreds of new construction hotel rooms in Savannah that might suit particular people better than this apartment. But the historic charm and the 140 year old features in this well located unit are appreciated by many. Since this property was first offered in Spring of 2013, I am pleasantly surprised by how many guests have an entirely positive reaction to this property despite the drawbacks, including for example, some repeat customers who chose this unit for their week-long Honeymoon based entirely on the financial benefits, even after staying in my higher end units on prior stays. -Mary
This unit was perfect for our honeymoon trip to Savannah. The price was great! Mary is always a joy to deal with. The unit was very clean. We enjoyed the comfy king size bed, great location with beautiful street and convenient parking right outside the unit. We look forward to future trips to this beautiful city.
My family truly loved this quaint little apartment on Historic Jones Street. We were close to everything, including a short walk to the DOT stop, which is a free transport around beautiful Savannah. The fact that Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House and their wonderful food is just down the street is simply the icing on the cake. I definitely plán on returning. I live in a 110 year old home so I don't mind that it has some old home charm.
I recently visited Savannah as a reunion with two of my girlfriends from college. I booked this apartment because the price couldn't be beat. It was very easy to find. Mary Anderson was very nice as well. We felt safe and comfortable. Kruger was down the street and had a Starbucks. We walked everywhere. We made reservations for Paula Deens and enjoyed River Street. We only stayed out to about 10 each night and felt ok with walking back to the apartment. We recommend that you find a route that's well lit if you plan on walking back to the apartment after dark. It's a lovely area and very close to Forsyth Park. Parking was free but watch out for street sweeping times. All the parking information is listed in a handy dandy notebook upon your arrival. We did try some of the recommended restaurants and they were great. I would stay here again for a quick weekend getaway.
Appreciated the previously posted reviews so we had no surprises about a few limitations, such as traffic noises in the sleeper sofa room. We would stay there again, but would have liked some hangers in the closet. Had to go to the Dollar Store and get some. The washer and dryer came in handy. Enjoyed the little courtyard, which could be a little more enhanced. A car is good to get to the riverfront, but we walked to many places nearby.
This adorable little apartment was the perfect size for a sister get away weekend. We were able to walk to everything (although because of the rain we did drive a few times). We could not find a hotel room this close to everything for this price and this was a much better deal to feel a part of the neighborhood and really experience Savannah's charm. We walked to clary's (crab cakes Benedict was to die for) and firefly cafe. The bed was incredibly comfy and the darkness of the room helped us to sleep in a little longer than usual which was really nice. It's a bottom floor so we could hear the folks up top walking around and talking but that didn't bother us. The back outdoor space was really cute. We enjoyed the suggestions for restaurants. Vic's on the river was fantastic. The only real disappointment was the rainy weather which no one had any control over and we still made the best of our weekend. We love savannah and will return and would not hesitate to stay here again!

That sounds like the perfect trip! So happy to hear this apartment was satisfactory. The many weeks of cold rain this spring season did put a damper on some people's spirits but apparently not these sisters! Very happy we have this reasonably priced apartment so perhaps guests can splurge on dining out at all the best places! Thanks for the generous and helpful feedback.
This cozy rental worked fine for a couple nights stay for two of us. The location is very good. The cross street is quite busy but traffic was light by bed time. The rental was as described. Not anything fancy but definitely comfortable and we felt safe. The locks on the front door are difficult to open and I hope the owner can replace/improve that situation for future travelers. Other than that we were well satisfied. Thank you for your hospitality!
Owner Response
We did change the difficult locks since this person stayed. We actually changed the front door altogether so now it has a window which was a huge improvement.
We absolutely loved every minute that we were in Savannah! Thanks to the very reasonable cost of this rental, we were able to afford the mini vacation of our dreams. The lodging was clean and had everything that we needed, the description and pictures are accurate. We were out most of the time walking and photographing Savannah, touring graveyards, forts or visiting the beach...some days we came in for a nap and went back out. In other words, we were only there to refuel and sleep. We did not use the living room....just bedroom, bath and kitchen but I could see how it would be handy if we had brought one of our kids with us. I will concur with others that there are a lack of windows which make for dark surroundings but Mary notes this extensively in the listing so you should know what to expect. This is not a brand new facility but an older historic building that has character...don't expect much and you will not be disappointed. We were very surprised that it exceeded our expectations and very satisfied with the property. Mary was quick to allow us an extra night since it as available to rent, which thrilled me to no end. I highly recommend walking the streets, riverfront and parks, and the historic theater with the Rock Jamboree was fun. Eat at Anna's in the City Market (Bayau Chicken...yum!), Lady and Sons and Mellow Mushroom delivers(!) I would return in a heartbeat and rent this property again. Thanks for the wonderful memories!
The perfect place for a quiet get away. All of the charm you could ask for in a budget friendly rental. The only negative was that ESPN was not available on the Direct TV plan so we had to go out to watch college football.
I know this review may sound like we were disappointed, but really we weren’t. All in all, this unit met our needs and our budget, but we gave only four stars due to the ‘con’ items we mentioned below. Thanks for a nice visit to a lovely city. Pros: Budget friendly priced. Communication with owner easy and well documented. Unit clean and decorated very nicely Located at east edge of historic downtown-easy walking to all squares, houses, and River Street Parking free on street Cons: Musty smell upon arrival- needed to ventilate each time returning to unit Toilet still seems to have running problem. Locks difficult to open/close (need a little finesse to completely lock) Noise levels from street could be loud at times, and some noise from upstairs Recommendations: Walking tour with Bobby Davis/ Explore Savannah Restaurants: Vic’s on the River, Goose Feathers Café, The Public Kitchen, Mellow Mushroom, and for great coffee and relaxing atmosphere: Gallery Espresso Great shows at the Savannah Theater.. We saw Jukebox Journey, 2 hours of great music, singing, and dancing by local artists. House tours: Owens Thomas House, Telfair Art Museum and Mercer-Williams House. We left some for the next time.

This is a pretty accurate review. I think the other guests' 5-star reviews are taking into account that they paid the budget price and with that in mind it was indeed excellent. But this review is still helpful. I prefer for people to have realistic expectations. This house was constructed in 1875 so occasionally the "musty" smell pops up, even in our entirely remodeled side of the townhouse, but it's not a big problem and I am very sensitive to that sort of thing. And thank you for mentioning that it is clean, which cancels out many cons in a vacation rental. -Mary
My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights just the two of us and we had a great time. The price was great and we thought the property was very nice, but we weren't expecting it to be super updated which was fine with us. Everything was very clean and comfortable. We loved the fact that we could walk to everything we wanted to do with the exception of a couple things. And Tybee Island is a quick drive. Also the on street parking was nice we barely drove our car but even when we did take it out finding another spot was never an issue. We also loved that Vinnie Van Gogo's delivered.. which is a nice change from living in a place where you cant get pizza delivered and the prices were very good (cash only) and the pizza was amazing! I am totally in love with Savannah and when we do decide to come back we would for sure stay here again. We had an amazing time!
Perfect location for walking everywhere! Local restaurants around the block. Easy to find/return the key, very clean, essentials were stocked, nice binder with recommendations. Mary was very helpful and easy to communication with. Since this was on the corner of a street, you could hear traffic in the living room (where the sleeper sofa is). The bedroom was quieter but you could hear everything above you (the neighbors TV, neighbors talking, high heels walking, furniture moving, our toilet made noise when someone else in the building flushed). I couldn't go to sleep until the neighbors were quiet, then woke up in the middle of the night when they came home and they were also my morning wake-up call both mornings (7am). I am a light sleeper so this may not bother some people. I shut the bathroom door the second night and that helped with the toilet noise. Overall, still giving this 5 stars because it was great for the money and location. I've never stayed in a building that old, so these things may be common in old buildings/city issues that I'm not used to, being from the burbs! I wanted to stay in an old building because the historic area is beautiful and I would stay again – just would like to be on a top apartment.

I think this is a helpful review. I want to point out how perspectives vary though. I recently had someone email that I really must put an alarm clock in the bedroom because they were sleeping so soundly they overslept! With cell phones being a huge replacement for alarm clocks I had skipped buying a clock. The bedroom is quite dark and to some people it is quiet enough to oversleep. Lastly, the toilet running noise has been taken care of, the flusher/flapper has been replaced so it no longer fills randomly.
This apt. met our needs perfectly. I think it must have a new owner b/c there were some necessary items it could use. However, the manager was very prompt in answering questions, very nice, and took my suggestions to heart to make the apartment even better. Loved our stay there.

So happy to see 5-stars for this review! This unit does not have a new owner, quite the contrary, but I did outfit it with a lot of new items so I can see why it seems that way. The owner is my neighbor, an older bachelor, and I help him with his vacation rental. I have a lot of fun purchasing the kitchen gear for his and my own vacation rentals. I bought brightly colored items for this one, including sherbet colored steak knives, turquoise glasses, a canary yellow can opener and bright orange silicone spatula. The guest emailed me after she left and said the place was lacking a can opener and a spatula. Knowing that I put those in there, I went straight over to see if they were missing. There they were right next to the silverware. I am not sure how they were missed. As always, no need to wait until writing a review from home after your vacation to mention something you needed, if you cannot find something while in town don't hesitate to let me know! -Mary
Even though this is a budget friendly apartment it was the right size for one/two persons. Easy walking distance to historic district. Quaint and simple. Visited Savannah for job and apartment hunting trip. This unit served my purposes within my budget. The property manager did an excellent job of making sure every detail was covered for my stay. If you are looking for luxury it is not here, but if you just need the necessities this apartment provides them. Besides, you won't spend much time here because you will want to explore the area. The mattress is very comfy!
Great location, cute apartment, comfy bed! It was wonderful for our 10th anniversary trip. The couch wasn't very comfy, but other than that, it was a perfect stay! (:
Owner Response
So glad you had such a great time! Thanks for the generous review of this apartment. The sofa is now replaced (as of July 2) with a nice new one with pullout sofa bed. Even before receiving this feedback we had been shopping for a pullout leather sofa as opposed to the fold down futon leather sleeper sofa in the unit during this reviewer's stay. That one was cute but temporary. I'm sure future guests will be pleased with the new substantial sofa.
This rental was a nice place to stay in Savannah. It was in walking distance to everything and in a great part of town. We had an issue with the air conditioning but it was fixed within 30 minutes of contacting the owner. It had a full kitchen which was nice. We would have liked some chairs out back to sit, even though there is a bench out there which is also nice. It included cable and Internet which was a nice amenity especially when it was raining out! We did run out of toilet paper but that was easily remedied. Thank you so much we had a great time in Savannah!! -Darren and Jenny Fowler
Owner Response
Clean and comfortable is what we want to hear!! The bed has a fantastic mattress much like a Tempurpedic but from a company whose memory foam is PBDE, CFC and Formaldehyde free (Zinus company certified on certipur.us). The general rule of thumb for the housekeeper is to stock one roll of toilet paper on the roll and at least one backup in the cupboard. There is typically enough for our 2-3 night bookings so that weekend getaway visitors do not have to go to the store. Guests who stay longer may have to procure some of their own paper products. These guests stayed 6 nights. We got a bistro set for the courtyard!
This apartment is in a great location situated in the historic district. The neighborhood is very walkable, or a cheap cab ride to anything you want to see. It's on the corner of a quiet tree lined street with nice neighbors. Tybee Island is only about 20 miles away if you choose to go. It's a spacious garden apartment on the street level with a small courtyard complete with a bench and a fountain. It's the perfect size for 1-2 people that just required basic accomodations. There are two fireplaces and hardwoods throughout. I would recommend this to anyone that wants a nice place to say but doesn't want to spend a luxury vacation rental price. The property supervisor is very helpful and knowledgeable of the area and quick to respond to any questions that you may have. I'll definately be back.
