Carriage House East at George Baldwin House
This apartment is in the "carriage house" behind the George Baldwin Mansion. This is a rustic cabin-vibe unit with window AC (no central air). Queen bed + 2x Twin beds. Great location! This is a simple but great unit for adventuresome non-picky guests. The television has basic channels with digital antenna and the wifi comes from the owner's home across the yard. Grocery store ("downtown Kroger") is less than a block away. City of Savannah SVR-00685
The George Baldwin House was constructed in 1887. Designed by architect William Gibbons Preston. This was the first commission for Preston who later went on to design many of the most famous and impressive Savannah landmarks such as the Cotton Exchange.
This carriage house unit has a cabin-like interior with built in twin beds instead of normal living room seating, and a built in queen bedroom in the bedroom. The kitchen separates the bedroom/bathroom from the living area and only the bathroom has a proper door.
This is in the southern edge of the Historic District very close to Forsyth Park and right next to the event venue Brockington Hall which is another incredible historic mansion.
Walking is the best way to get around Savannah but taxi, Uber, trolley or Pedi Cab are readily available options for a ride.
Other things to note
Parking is free on the public street and you will need to read street sweep signs. One side of Hall is cleaned Friday night and the other is cleaned Wednesday night. You will have no trouble if you read those signs and swap sides accordingly. The hot water takes a few minutes to reach the fixture since it comes from the basement of the main house.

Mary’s place was in a great location to where we wanted to be. Late afternoon walks in Forsyth Park were amazing. There are great coffee shop and restaurants within a short walk. The cabin feel to the unit was a great experience. Would definitely stay again.
This was the perfect place for our visit - close to our son's graduation at the Civic Center, his apartment, downtown, the park and even a grocery store. It was a quaint little cottage tucked between the stately old homes. A hidden gem near everything Savannah has to offer.
So much better than a hotel
This spot is NOT to be missed! We are so happy we chose this place for our Savannah vacation. We often mentioned over the trip how much better this was versus a hotel. The space has a cabin-esque, woodysy vibe to it which complimented our activities in town so well since we spent a lot of time taking in the natural beauty of the area whether that was in Forsyth Park, kayaking on Ebenezer Creek, or even in the patio outside the unit. The air conditioning was perfect for some relief after a long day out in the heat. The bathroom was very clean and comfortable. We loved the place.
Mary’s place is in a perfect location to experience historic Savannah, and the river is less than a 30 min walk away. The apartment was very cozy (almost cabin-like). Her recommendations were also spot on (we especially loved the Cuban restaurant down the road)!
